Bee Tai Mak 米台目

Im sure that Bee Tai Mak is not alien to you, but have u tried Bee Tai Mak dessert? It is a Hakka traditional dessert. It was my favourite since young. There was an uncle who sold this dessert long time ago and nowadays i cant find similar dessert anymore! sob sob~

My grandma used to make this for us to eat. My brothers and I love it much. Last year I ask her if she can teach me how to make this Bee Tai Mak dessert, but she said she has forgotten (She is not young anymore, reasonable). This dessert is good for health, it is great during the summer time!

So, as a generation, and as a mixed Hakka decendent, I decided to look for the recipe online and make it..hehe...It was hard to find the recipe as not people share the recipe. But finally, I found this recipe, similar to how my grandma described. It was an 1.5 hr...long but I enjoyed€:)

The following are the process.

1st of all, soak 2 cups of rice overnight. This picture shows the rice after being soaked for 1 night.The rice should be breakable and soft.

2ndly, with the ratio of water n soaked rice, 1:1, put them together into blender. I used 2 cups of rice (rice measurement cup), so I used the 2 cups of water and put them into the blender.

I started to blend until there is no more rice particle. This process is vital!

I filtered the blended rice juice, to make sure there is no big rice particle. This process is unecessary if your rice juice is ok.

Cooking time! I added 2 teaspoons of corn starch into the wok, and stirred it. Make sure the corn starch is fully soluble with the rice juice. Start with a low heat.

Stir it continuously to make sure it doesnt stick on the bottom or overheated. Stir and stir and stir....You will find the rice juice started to thicken.

Now, your rice dough is almost done, it should not be too watery or too hard.

Boil a pot of water simultaneously when you start to heat the rice juice.

When the water is boiled, use anything with hole and put your dough on it and press it and the Bee Tai Mak will fall into the boiling water. The size of the hole depends on how you want it to be.

When it start to float, it means it is cooked and you can take it out and soaked in cold water. (This ensures the Bee Tai Mak is not overcooked and soft, soaking in cold water gives the QQ feeling)

Now, your Bee Tai Mak is ready and you can serve with longan soup, or any sweetened soup. Serve chilled or hot. You can add colour to the rice dough. I didnt put any colour to it as I want to make it as chemical-free as possible. Of course, you can add pandan leaves extract to give it green colour, beetroot juice to give red colour. You can keep it in the fridge for 1 day or 2.

Since young, I was always labelled as "not so beautiful or less beautiful" girl. Of course, I believe, all girls love to be addressed as BEAUTIFUL, CHARMING, LOVELY and etc and etc...I am one of them. Being a low self-esteem girl, I had always wanted to be beautiful to increase my self-esteem.
Getting a boyfriend for myself, to show others that I have someone who appreciates me, appeaciates my beauty and etc, I tell you, it will not work.
In fact I tell you, there's stil a cavity in my heart, somehow these things will not increase my self-esteem because these are the outward satisfactionsssS...!

As I come to know the Lord, I started to know that true satisfaction comes from the Lord. True beauty comes from the One who created us. I have friends, average looking, but as I knew them more and more, I felt that they are so beautiful! And that is my BIG DISCOVERY:-

Inner beauty will be reflected outwardly.

Isn't that even greater than those who put too much focuz on their physical appearance?but empty inside?

And of course, it is not wrong to be beautiful outwardly, but we need to strike a balance. Not too much outwardly and forget our inner beauty. Both should work together. But it is the inner beauty will last until the end, charm and beauty will fade away.

When these passages came to my eyes, it strike my heart and mind. I knew that I have been concerning my outward appearance more and more...and start to forget my spiritual appearance. I felt great when someone came to me and say "wow, what a beautiful dress！"，"lovely hairdo", "nice make up" and etc....more than what I can list here. But if I do not take care of my spiritual beauty, I will fall one day, like how Satan corrupted.

So Girls, lets be BEAUTIFUL~!

Difference between LISTEN and HEAR

well, a friend of mine pour out this question to me few years back..to my surprise...it's really different

when someone say... * i hear u*...it may not really go to his/her heart..just like a wind blow by..u hear the voice...but u dun really know the content...

but when someone say * i listen to u*...this is much different from i hear u...
when he/she say i listen to u...he/she really pay attention to every single word..
they will listen whole-heartedly..

This illegitimate son, one day, declared that he doesnt want to be under his father shelther and he went away and find another father as a substitution..His father..of cuz..let him go and let him do whatever he wants to do as he cant decide or determine the direction of his child.

Supposedly, the legal son of the father should inherit his father's property. but this illegitimate son...always come n take away the properties..and the legal son of the father didnt able to enjoy the inheritance that his father has given to him..

so this legal son..became upset and wanted to do something in order to get back what he supposed to have...

在外地住了好多年，每当回家乡，都要在固定的地方，吃固定的食物。。。。
虽然事物的味道是也很不错，可是，每当我吃的时候，食物里不单单有好味道，更让我念念不忘的事，食物里藏着我小时候的回忆的味道。。

好记的，小时候，爸爸很爱打包牛肉粿条汤回来给我们吃。我们全家大小，都很爱吃牛肉粿条。。那香喷喷的味道，至如今也难忘。。我哥，我和我弟弟。。每当闻到 ‘它’ 的来临。。高兴得说不出口。。。
我们也有奇怪的吃法。。将全部的辣椒酱都倒进汤。。汤都变红色。。哈哈。。奇怪吧？

长大了，这些回忆，也牢牢的烙印在心里，爸爸对我们的爱是无法形容的。。
如果吃到味道不好的牛肉粿条。。心里会很失望。。怎么这样好的一个料理被糟蹋了。。

小时候，我也很爱吃黑豆沙包。。当时在地上有很多的黑色昆虫。。爸就说黑豆沙是黑虫搅成的。。害得我不再敢吃黑豆沙包。。现在回想起来，觉得很好笑。。可能爸看见我那么馋嘴，就吓一吓我吧。。

现在看见牛肉粿条和黑豆沙包，就好像回到童年
好想回去童年的时光。。。。。

everyone has her/his own secret code...what is ur secret code?for me...secret code would be languages.This secret code(language) has been a bridge to the ppl who know the same secret code, and a barrier to those who doesnt know the same secret code.Im not sure how many languages they are in this world,i personaly know few languages..Mandarin(inclusive of some chinese dialects),English, Malay. I have encountered few ppl from other secret code,middle eastern,persian and so on..If we do not know their secret code..we can hardly understand the culture, the thinking, the mindset as well.So, i took up the challenge to learn the * secret code*...arabic at 1st...and now...persian..

having a good labmate who is a persian is wonderful. Cultural exchange,food exchange...(Lol~~)
now..i know some persian word...such as...

Middle Eastern Food

I was so priviledge to eat middle eastern food just now...it was a treat from stanford's student...who is a Yemeni...hmm...by the way..do u know what Yemeni is?haha...Yemeni is a nationality of Yemen....Yemen is a middle eastern country at the gulf area...

the food was very good...we were served a small bowl of hot mutton chicken soup...it was great..fragrance of the herbs from Yemen..

next..salad...or fatoush in arabic...basically...veges.....they have different types of salad..arabic salad...yemeni salad.....hmmm...i dunno much...then here comes a chicken with yellowish + orangish colour..it was special...very much different from what i have tried from mamak stall...

then there is 'salta'...a bowl of cooked mixture of egg,rice,meat,..vege...anything that u can name...is in the small bowl..it's like our chinese claypot..served with Yemeni bread..called khubz in arabic..there's another type of bread..a very thin one,lebanon bread...both were nice....

here comes the mutton with vege...i dun like mutton much...but i ate quite a lot just now...it was tender...simply delicious...served with bread as well...huh...it was a heavy 'DinnER' at 10 pm...

it was an interesting experience to get to know new friends..especially foreigners...cultural exchange...n so on..oh ya.. we managed to visit the kitchen as well..a big home made OVEN..cool~.they are friendly..u guys shd try it out...the name of the restaurant is Saba Restaurant..will attach the photos here once i get it from them...LoL~

recently, i have encountered the 2nd type of person, who is quite extreme in that case.

huh...~to my surprise..this person,when it comes to food, wow...keep eating...especially when it's FOC food...keep eating...double portion of others...and u ask this person to contribute something..like food...this person brought only 1 small packet of peanut..for 40-50 persons...

In the Bible, we are taught to give more than to receive..It's more blessed to give than to receive...

giving doesnt mean u must give in terms of monetary form, or food...or tangible things that you can see..giving can be offfering helps...even spend time listening to others...it's also a form of giving..as we are giving away our precious time...

Now, starts giving...~and you will never know that you may change one's life...

Massive quake moves NZealand closer to Australia

WELLINGTON (AFP) – A massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake last week has moved the south of New Zealand closer to Australia, scientists said Wednesday.
With the countries separated by the 2,250-kilometre-wide (1,400-mile-wide) Tasman Sea, the 30 centimetre (12 inch) closing of the gap in New Zealand's southwest won't make much difference.
But earthquake scientist Ken Gledhill of GNS Science said the shift illustrated the huge force of the tremor, the biggest in the world so far this year.
"Basically, New Zealand just got a little bit bigger is another way to think about it," he told AFP.
While the southwest of the South Island moved about 30 centimetres closer to Australia, the east coast of the island moved only one centimetre westwards, he said.
The biggest quake in New Zealand in 78 years caused only slight damage to buildings and property when it struck the remote southwest Fiordland region of the South Island last Thursday.
A small tsunami was generated by the earthquake, with a tide gauge on the West Coast of New Zealand recording a wave of one metre.
"For a very large earthquake, although it was very widely felt, there were very few areas that were severely shaken," Gledhill said.
Aerial inspection of the forested fiords near the quake's epicentre showed few land slips or other signs of damage.
This was partly because the type of rupture at the boundaries of the Australian and Pacific plates meant the energy from the quake was largely directed westwards towards the sea rather than inland towards the nearest towns.
The type of quake, known as a subduction thrust rupture, also meant the quake produced lower frequency shaking, felt as a rolling motion, rather than sharp jolts which would have caused more damage.
New Zealand frequently suffers earthquakes because it marks the meeting point of the Australian and Pacific continental plates.
Gledhill said the latest quake may have brought forward a major quake on the offshore section of the Alpine fault, off the coast of Fiordland in the Tasman Sea.
"There could easily be another large earthquake in another part of that region. We can't predict that obviously."
The latest quake was the biggest since February 2, 1931 when a 7.8 quake killed at least 256 people in the North Island city of Napier.
The biggest quake recorded here measured 8.2 and caused major damage in 1855 in the fledgling European settlement that later became the capital Wellington.
The latest quake was unusual in striking right on the boundary of the Australian and Pacific plates and will be important in researching earthquake hazards, Gledhill said.

we attended night class by prof fun on tue night...half way of the class...started to rain...rain heavily...aft the class...we went back...when i was walking, suddenly there was a loud thunder...i terkejut and ter jump a bit....my heart was beating like pep pop pep pop....very fast...luckily no one was around me...else i also paiseh...some area in usm also banjir a bit...and i saw 1 car jam in the middle of the road and ambulance came...

when i reach home....OMG...banjir edi...haiz...the water from the drain over flow....the height of the water is about 10cm high like tat...aiyo...i was wearing sport shoes(long time tak wash edi la)..haha...then ma basah liao lo...bo huat..have to wash lo...since i need to wash it anyway...but without the rain n the banjir...maybe i still have not washed it also..haha..thx the rain...thx for the weather...thx God

and it's raining now...i hope there is no banjir...else i have to wash it like once every 2 days... sweat~

we've been working in the lab for 1 month plus...and Prof Fun treated 3 of us , 2 of my seniors (CKQ and CSY---->must mention their name..else they will merajuk), lab assistants and another 2 postdoc seafood dinner at Ocean Blue

it supposed to be a welcoming dinner..but it turned up to be a farewell dinner as well...becuz both of the postdoc told prof that they got a job to be assc prof in india..they will leaving after 2 weeks...i guessed it was a blast for him..

we went to ocean blue in 3 cars...once arrived,he ordered the food for us...actually the food taste good..here is the list of the seafood

the service was good as they will change ur plate for each meal and take away the residual shells..

feel very grateful towards my seniors and friends...and prof fun as well..this is a blessed place to be in..although i feel tensed at times..but i believe God will help me thru' in times of hardships..

Road to dawn, or 《夜。明》 in mandarin, is a great movie..indeed, this is a true story on how Sun-Yat Sen brought revolution to China. great man with a great vision.
Most of the scenes where taken in penang..baba nyonya houses, penang old streets, CRC, and francis light graveyard.

the english man, whom Sun Yat Sen was pointing the gun at, is a lecturer in a college.
wow, i was impressed byt this guy. i had a chance to see him in real. his name is Dr. Paul Woods who can converse well in english,mandarin,cantonese,thai..and much more...
\his mandarin is superb, he speaks standard mandarin...better than most of us i think.

You can't believe that this is the durian i get from sunshine market.This is the biggest durian i've ever seen. This durian is medium in size, therefore, the ratio is big, as the durian flesh is super thick...!! It's not expensive, from Rm 4 to Rm 7, depending on the size and grade of the durian.

for durian lover, cost is not the issue anyway.

Now, the question comes, why do i suggest everybody go to sunshine market to buy durian?

The durian seller is a man who is working for a drink stall in the sunshine market. At the same time, he has a stall selling durian. His wife is handicapped, sitting on wheel chair selling keropok beside the durian. This couple perserves although life is tough. This is the spirit i can see through them.

They work from morning to night, just to earn a living. Life is not easy, and they have an old mother to take care of, currently having a stroke and need money for the medical expenses.

I believe many of us are having better financial situation and working environment. But, we keep complaining of what we are having now, the grass at the other side always look more green.

Please support the couple by buying the durian...You will be touched by their spirit!

how does it affect??
for example,
when you are about to do something, becuz of procrastination, u may think like this...

" aiya,dont know whether will i make it or not??" or " what if i ....then ....."

questions like this really take us sometimes to reconsider of action...
at the end,he or she may achieve nothing,becuz he/she ha been wasting too much of time deciding.

i guess many of us hav this prob,
we may not afford to make mistake in our life,therefore we take such a loooooooooong time to decide for something.

i know procrastination is my major prob,i seems to drag time,drag this and that,until it leads to nowhere...dun procrastinate like me...lol

how far do you agree with this statement??
this line came across my mind today while i was in the lab...
i remembered my tuition teacher told me this many years back...i always thought that this verse is good..in many ways it is good...so since young, i did not want to trouble troubles, i prefer to keep silent and do my own things..try not to care for others bussiness..u know la..to avoid troubles at timee..

but as i grow up, i realise that this line is not fully good.
always, we learn lessons from the troubles or mistake..in another way, trouble refines us to be a better person.
but if u wan to trouble troubles, trouble it with full of wisdom la...of cuz im not encouraging each one of you to trouble unnecessary troubles..but trouble troubles that will bring positive outcome..

if u notice something which are needed for a change,why not u voice it up so that it can be changed for the better?

i have been working under prof fun in the lab for 1 week plus edi...huh...the work is kind of routine..im not sure whether am i able to withstand o not...haha..

basically sit in front of the pc for most of the time...then if ppl send sample for testing...we will help them to do structure determination..seniors are nice..willing to teach us everything..just that im blur..cant fully absorb things...

however it is...stil wanna thx God for this opportunity...else i will still be sitting at home..n grow fats...wahah...hopefully i can finish my mission within the period of time..

have anyone of you being cheated?i dunno about u guys but i experienced it just now.

a friend of mine, Mr. M ,asked my friend Ms. J out for dinner, i was with Ms.J for swimming.
she asked me to join together as i need to eat dinner as well and feel weird going out with him alone.
so i joined.

he brought us from sg2 to farlim just to have dinner...hmmm...actually i was wondering why would he brings us there as he is famous of being kiam siap..i didnt think much..
we had our dinner..and went for the nearby night market shopping for food..then he suddenly disappeared..we carried on our shopping..for food...

we felt kinda tired(after swimming), and both of us gotta do works tmr...we called him n said we will wait for him at the nearby kfc..

he came and said he had to meet his friend,wanna discuss(or share) bussiness....without any doubt..we have to wait til his friend come in kfc...we paiseh to rush ppl fetch us back also as we followed his car..we waited for so long...wonderin when wil his friend come and finished the discussion

initially we tot the discussion was btw him n my friend..mana tau....once he came...he showed us the web...this n that...share to both of us about the 'bussiness' and bla bla bla....u know...that time was ard 11 pm edi...MAN!i need to wake up early n go to lab(at least for me it's early)....wat is he trying to share with us??!!! wat??
TIV express??i also dunno wat he was sharing as i had no mood to listen also..
he called my friend for dinner...!not sharing BUSSINESS!!!hey wake up...it's like a hidden prawn behind the stone..!i hate ppl doing things with other intentions...his friend shared naturally as if we are out to listen to his BUSSINESS SHARING...man!

if i were him, i will clarify clearly wat is the program of the night...share bussiness ka...share story ka...purely makan ka....watever... if u mention it...and ppl reject it.it's fine...
but if u invite ppl for something...and the main purpose is the other thing..sorry...i wont give u face..

Outbreak of H1N1

Exams is over, everyone is busy deciding the path of life ..and as well as the ways of getting ourselves relieved.

Ching ching has tried her best to plan all sorts of trip to get us to go for a holidays, as a group of physicists...
first of all we planned to go to bangkok,failed- political situation wasnt stable
2nd food trip to melaka,failed- outbreak of another virus in melacca which is quite serious
3rd river food(lobster) at Bagan samak, near parit buntar, failed- the 2nd case of H1N1 girl is from my hometown..and her family members are now quarantined at home...and she had been sent to penang hospital for treatment and observation..

huh...i've never thought a small town like my town, Parit Buntar will ever get into contact with these kind of viruses..u know...we always think that rural area will be the safest to stay when there is any virus outbreak...hmm...what has this proven???my place is not that rural maybe...haha...

Advice from doctor:
drink more water to keep your body temperature cool.. one may get infected easily if the body is heaty..when our body is heaty,all kind of sickness can attack us as the immune system is not strong..

She's is my highschool junior..just keep her in prayer..May The Lord heals her...

weekend at home
helped me to release my stress...makan big fish n big prawns..which i seldom do in pg...wow...talking abt the prawn...it's not prawn...it's lobster...hehe..lobster from the river..it's something common here in my place...i was so shocked to see the lobster..i was wondering...WHAT IS THAT??SO BIG??my eyes opened widely..of cuz..air liur also flow to the floor..ahaha...

recently my friend,a Thai girl,commented that i look like a Thai.probably because my skin tone...then,ching ching commented that i look like an Iban instead...huh...it has become more n more interesting...

when i was in my high school...i used to be very active in school activities..march from morning til evening...huh~...i was tanned..haha...my mum said dunno whether others will think that she's bringing her indon maid out when i was with her o not...hahaha~

after 1st Jan monkey beach...again...tanned...sun burnt...wah lau eh....my face habis edi...haha.

渴望的假期也到了，却不知要怎么过，假期前时打算要做的事情却在假期间没办到。。哈哈

最近，爱上了facebook 的宠物游戏。
可能对一些人来说是蛮闷的，但我却玩得蛮开心。

对了，我现在再学习希伯来文，蛮有趣的。
希伯来文的字母看起来都大同小异，蛮难分辨一些字母，因为分别就在长一些，或短一些。。冒汗。
与阿拉伯文相比，阿拉伯文的字母容易认得多了，虽然看起来好像有好多的
cacing，不过看久了就能分辨出来。。。至于希伯来文呢，可能还需要一段时间吧。。

i came back to hometown,so that i can go to USM Engineering campus Nibong Tebal to borrow some books related to my Final Year Projects..

So, right after Sunday Service in church,i went to the library to borrow some books.

knowing that the campus is very very conservatives in terms of attire, i tried to find as conservative attire as i can,as most of my clothes are all in penang.luckily i found a long sleeves t-shirt which fit me..now the problem is to find the long pants...so i borrowed from my mum..luckily my mum n i are of the similar size..haha...huh...next...finiding my shoes...sport shoes..aiya..i forgot abt this when i came back from penang..so i dun have any sport shoes with me..but my mum is my savior..hahah..she has a nice pair of sport shoes...n i wore it..

so imagine now,how im dressed...

i went in to the library happily...hoping can get the books and run..the guard didnt stop me..so i went in...after cari cari...man...from ground floor to 3rd floor then only can find the books that i want..

so i went to the counter,to pinjam and cabut...

so,there's an interesting staff there..and we had an interesting conversation:

Staff : mana baju?
JacQ : baju??

Staff : baju la...jaket..

JacQ : oooh...tak sejuk pun...jadi saya tak pakai jaket la..

Staff : Bukan...baju berkolar...!kenapa guard itu bagi u masuk?sepatutnya kamu tk boleh masuk jika baju tak berkolar...

i was puzzled..and was embarresed by wat he had said to me..

JacQ : oh..saya bukan dari kampus ini...jadi saya tak tau..

Staff : sama sajalah...sepatutnya sana pun tak boleh..kenabaju berkolar tau?

JacQ : ooooo...begitu...kami kat sana boleh...tak sama dengan sini...

Staff : lain kali kena pakai berkolar..jika tak,tak boleh masuk.

JacQ : ok ok.....(ggggrrrr....)

i was thinking..does it make a big difference???mine is rounded-collar...which only showing my neck and not my chest...man!gila one...

does the collar make u look smarter??no way!

luckily im in USM main campus...else i will be suffocated to death by all these crazy rules.....!

During holidays

i guess i had and im having a fruitful holidays..
i went to ipoh for a relaxation ,2 days 1 nite..wonderful!
i had a lot of fun...especially when we spent time together with coursemates..i guess this trip had drawn each other closer..getting to know each other better..

i kept playing and eating and almost neglected my studies as well as my project..
hehe..well,im so happy that finally i got to download the Tina (electronic simulation) successfully,it's just a demo version,hopefully i can finish my work within the period of time.
this mean that i do not need to go to lab to do the simulation..haha..sometime it's troublesome for me..purposely spend time in the lab...with the old monitor,which made my eyes tired and painful easily..i prefer my own laptop :)

now,burning midnite oil..i love that actually...now im spending my time..with my younger bro..he 's doing his matric homework(physics & math)..it's good that he asked me questions at times..this would help me to refresh what i've learned in the past..

im trying to derive the Debye's model equation...huh...complicated..
i guess i gotta continue now..

recently the toxic milk scandal...huh...so scary...feel so pity for those babies who r involved...4 babies died becuz of that...can u imagine that??!!oh my goodness...they are innocent...

how come the traders do like this??this is unethical...well..although i dunno much abt trading & bussiness...but i think at least we must n should have ethical..else we will not gain trust n respects from others
